Difference Between Cop Winding and Pirn Winding Machine
Winding is an important process of Weaving. It is the process of transferring yarns from one package to another suitable package for the next process. Winding machines are a big part of weaving machines. Here we presenting the Difference Between Cop Winding and Pirn Winding Machine.

Cop Winding Machine:
Cop winding machine is usually used for jute winding process in textile sector. It has four heads, by which winding machine can be wound 4 cops at a time. Also, it has clamps by which the machine can control the length of yarn. Cop winding machine is totally in auto stop motion system.
Features of Cop Winding Machine:
Some key features of cop winding machine have pointed out in the below:
- Here, the necessary amount of pressure is needed to form cop.
- The shape and size of cop is easily adjustable.
- To supply weft yarn, cop winding machine is mainly used in jute winding.
- Cop winding machine has full stop motion system.
- Output winding package is smaller here than supply package
- Tube or bobbin is not used here to form cop.
Pirn Winding Machine:
The basic unit of pirn winding machine consists of spindles. It can be joined together to obtain 8 spindles, where each unit of 4 spindles and 8 spindles are driven individually.
Features of Pirn Winding Machine:
The main features of pirn winding machine are given in the following:
- Pirn winding machine is two types.
- One is automatic pirn and another one is ordinary pirn.
- This winding machine is suitable for winding cotton, synthetic polyethylene fiber yarn, synthetic polyethylene fiber yarn, Nylon terry line, Silk and woolen yarn.
Comparison Differences Between Cop Winding and Pirn Winding Machines:
SL No. | Cop Winding Machine | Pirn Winding Machine |
01 | The cop creates pressure on the winding package here. | No pressure on package here. |
02 | No bobbin is sued here. | A bobbin is used. |
03 | 4 motors are available here for each cop is wound by a separate motor. | Only one motor is used for each machine. |
04 | Here, 4 cops can be wound at a time. | Here, more than 4 pirns can be wound at a time. |
05 | Weft package for jute here | Weft package for cotton here |
Cops are generally used in traditional looms where the yarn is drawn directly from the cop. Pirn Winding is used inside shuttle looms, where the yarn is unwound continuously while the shuttle moves across the loom.
Both machines serve important roles in textile processing, but cop winding is more related to ring-spun yarn preparation, whereas pirn winding is crucial for shuttle loom weaving. The choice between them depends on the specific requirements of the weaving or processing setup.
