Production capacity formula

Sewing capacity for a period in minutes and pieces, after absenteeism and efficiency.

Formula
Cpcs=L×O×(1−a)×H×60×D×ηSMVC_{pcs} = \dfrac{L \times O \times (1-a) \times H \times 60 \times D \times \eta}{\text{SMV}}

Capacity (pcs) = lines × operators × (1 - absenteeism) × hours × 60 × days × efficiency / SMV

SymbolMeaningUnit
LLines-
OOperators per linepersons
aAbsenteeism as a fraction-
HWorking hours per dayh
DWorking days in the perioddays
ηAverage efficiency as a fraction-

When to use it

Use it for order booking and monthly planning. Express mixed orders in minutes and compare with capacity minutes.

Worked example#

2 lines × 40 operators, 5% absenteeism, 8 hours, 26 days, 60% efficiency, SMV 10.

  • Available minutes = 80 × 0.95 × 480 × 26 = 948,480
  • Earned minutes at 60% = 569,088
  • Capacity = 569,088 / 10 = 56,908 pcs per month (about 2,188 per day)
