Four-point system score formula

Fabric defect penalty points normalised to 100 square yards, so rolls of different length and width can be compared.

When to use it

Use it for incoming fabric inspection to accept or reject rolls against the buyer's point limit.

Worked example#

A roll 100 yards long and 58 inches cuttable width has six 1-point, three 2-point, two 3-point and one 4-point defect.

Total points = 6 + 6 + 6 + 4 = 22
Points per 100 sq yd = 22 × 3600 / (100 × 58) = 13.7

Compare the result with the acceptance limit in the buyer's fabric inspection standard.
