The share of available time that a machine was actually running production.
Utilization % = run time / available time × 100

Use it for expensive or special machines (automatic pocket setters, embroidery heads, knitting machines) to see whether more machines are really needed.
An embroidery machine is scheduled for 960 minutes over two shifts and runs for 710 minutes.
Utilization = 710 / 960 × 100 = 74%
