Industrial engineering formula

Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) formula

The product of availability, performance and quality. It shows how much of planned time produced good output at ideal speed.

Formula
OEE=A×P×Q\text{OEE} = A \times P \times Q

OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality

SymbolMeaningUnit
AAvailability: run time / planned production time-
PPerformance: (ideal cycle time × total count) / run time-
QQuality: good count / total count-

When to use it

Use it for machine-paced processes such as knitting, cutting machines, automatic sewing units, printing and embroidery machines.

Worked example#

Planned time 480 min, 48 min of stops, ideal cycle 30 s, 720 pieces made, 684 good.

  • A = 432 / 480 = 0.90
  • P = (30 × 720) / (432 × 60) = 0.833
  • Q = 684 / 720 = 0.95
  • OEE = 0.90 × 0.833 × 0.95 = 71.3%
